Kinesiology for NewBorns

Nurturing Connections and Healing Touch

The Essence of Newborn Kinesiology

The four main reasons parents reach out for Kinesiology support in my clinic are:

  • Feeding support — including latch, tongue position, oral reflexes, and early digestive cues.

  • Sleep and settling — routines, sleep cycles, regulation, and helping little bodies switch between rest and activity with ease.

  • Birth stories and postpartum balance — supporting C-section recovery, separation at birth, birth trauma, and emotional integration for both mum and baby.

  • General wellbeing and energetic shifts — grounding, re-syncing the system, and helping children feel more settled, connected and in flow.

Gentle Sessions, Powerful Outcomes

Newborn kinesiology is gentle, intuitive work that supports both baby and mother through the early weeks and months after birth.

It brings together kinesiology, soft touch, baby massage, meridian work and developmental understanding to support connection, settling and greater ease within the family.

In the initial session, much of the focus is on the mother. Most of the bodywork is performed directly on her while she holds, feeds or settles her baby. We may work with posture, jaw tension, birth recovery, emotions and nervous system regulation, knowing that when the mother feels more grounded and supported, baby often responds to that shift too.

The session can also include reflex points for both mother and baby, worked with separately and together. Where appropriate, I may also bring in frequency tools such as tuning forks, flower or frequency essences, frequency pads, singing bowls, oils and moxibustion.

Birth can hold a lot emotionally. Kinesiology gives us a gentle way to explore some of those layers, including patterns around birth, family history, posture, breathing, digestion, jaw tension and early reflex responses.

Why new mums reach out

Every family that comes to see me arrives for their own reason, but a few threads show up again and again.

A birth that asked more of the body than expected.

An induction, an intervention, a caesarean, a labour that moved too fast or stalled for too long — however it unfolded, the body often keeps hold of it long after the birth certificate is signed.

Kinesiology offers a gentle way to help a mother's body finish processing what it went through, so recovery isn't just physical but felt as complete.

Feeding that isn't settling into its rhythm yet.

Pain at the latch, low or oversupply, a tongue or lip tie, a baby who arches or fusses at the breast — feeding troubles sit right at the intersection of mother and baby, and they wear both of them down fast.

Working with jaw tension, tongue position and oral reflex points for baby, alongside posture and tension release for mum, often eases the physical side of feeding while the emotional pressure around it softens too.

A baby who won't settle or cries more than feels manageable.

Colic, wind, an unsettled nervous system — these show up as behaviour, but they usually start in the body.

Gentle reflex work and calming touch help a baby's nervous system find its own "off switch," which no amount of outside soothing can do on its own.

Sleep that has unravelled for the whole household.

When a baby isn't sleeping, nobody is. Rather than chasing a sleep routine from the outside in, this work supports the nervous systems of both mother and baby directly, so rest becomes possible again in a more sustainable way.

The overwhelm that doesn't always get spoken about.

New motherhood can bring anxiety, a sense of having lost touch with your own body, or simply more than you expected to be carrying alone. This is often where the deepest work happens—supporting a mother to reconnect with her intuition and inner knowing, so she's not just coping but genuinely finding her feet again.

Early signs that something in development might need support.

Retained primitive reflexes, tension patterns from the birth, or early physical asymmetries sometimes show up in the first weeks and months. Meeting these gently and early, before they become bigger patterns, is some of the most valuable work we can do together.

At the heart of this work is connection: supporting a mother to reconnect with her body, her intuition and her inner knowing, while giving parents simple tools they can use at home through touch, warmth and presence.

Newborn kinesiology helps mother and baby find their rhythm together — in whatever time and way that takes.
